Working On The Cat Drawing As Inspiration Comes

The stripey cat is at Joshua Tree, but I am taking my time with this colored pencil drawing. There is no rush, and I am letting the creative process take me on a journey.

I used to think I needed to be super prolific when it came to producing drawings, but I realized that is not my style. I really am excited about how my cat illustration is evolving, so I am in no rush to finish it by a certain “deadline”. I just take the colored pencils and let my creativity go where it may.

Drawing The Stripey Cat

I have finished shading in the fur on my little stripey cat. I have always adore cats with stripes, and this little guy is indicative of this adoration.

I used two different shades of drawing pencils to create the dark and light stripes on my stripey cat.

I have finally completed drawing the fur on my grey stripey cat, so it is time to create a background for my little guy.

Drawing Irina At The Pinnacles

I have created a colored pencil drawing of Irina the cat at the Pinnacles.

Irina The Cat Drawing

I finally completed my colored pencil drawing of Irina the cat with the Pinnacles as a backdrop. This is a special drawing which includes a place I love, and a cat I adore.  Irina the cat has never visited the Pinnacles, but this is an imagined drawing of her visiting this location on a spring day.

I drew a picture of Irina on rough draft paper, and then used tracing paper to transfer the image on to more durable paper for the final colored pencil drawing.

My Cat Christmas Card

Here is the scanned version of the Christmas card that I designed for December 2010. Since 2007 the trend for me has been to draw cats on the front of the Christmas cards I design myself, and I have continued this theme with this gray cat standing next to a candy cane flower pot. Of course planting flowers in a candy cane Christmas pot could remind you of the holidays year round!
