Creating A Forest Sunset Sketch

The Forest Sunset Sketch: Part 1

The forest sunset sketch part 1 consisted of sketching the outline of the mountains and the trees, which is based on a picture I took up in the San Bernardino Mountains.

The Forest Sunset Sketch: Part 2

In the second phase of this sketch I am beginning to add more detail to the outlines of the trees that can be seen from the distance. Since this is a sunset sketch, I am focusing primarily on creating outlines for silhouettes and shadows.

The Forest Sunset Sketch: Part 3

During this phase of the sketch I am using a dark blue colored pencil to begin shading in the mountains.  I will be using a violet-blue pencil to shade in the shadows on the mountains after I have laid down the first layer of the dark blue pencil.

In the photo above I am just beginning to fill in the dark blue tones of the mountains.

In this photo I have just completed adding the dark blue undertone, and I will be shading in the darker portions with a violet blue colored pencil.

Forest Sunset Sketch: Part 4

The fourth phase of the sunset sketch consists of adding shadows to the mountains with a violet-blue colored pencil.  Here are two photographs documenting this phase of the sunset sketch.

In this phase of the sketch I am beginning to color in the silhouette of the trees with a black colored pencil. I have already shaded in the moon with two different tones of gray colored pencils.

A black colored pencil is being used to color in the silhouette of the trees at sunset. The foreground will also be colored in with a black colored pencil to create the illusion of a silhouette at sunset.

In this phase of the sunset sketch I have finished shading in the silhouette of the trees, and now I am beginning to shade in the silhouette of the mountains.

I use the black colored pencil to create the light and dark areas of the shadows caste by the setting sun.

The Forest Sunset Sketch Is Now Complete
I finally completed the forest sunset sketch, which is based on a picture I took of the view of Mount Baldy from the San Bernardino Mountains.

Completed Forest Sunset Sketch

Here is framed sunset photograph hanging on my wall. The bright colors of the sunset and the black silhouette of the trees make it quite an interesting picture.

Video of The Framed Forest Sunset Drawing

Here is the video I made of my forest sunset sketch drawing.  I hung the drawing next to others I have on the wall, and I quite like how all the pieces look together.  Drawing and painting is a creative way to create art work for your home.
